Last night I remembered about a hat my friend Gina got for Toby. At the time (February) when she gave it to me, I thought, “wow, that hat is huge!” Then we tried on Toby and realized, “wow, Toby, you’re huge!” (At least compared to when he was first born.) So today, we had a monkey hat photo shoot. Since I still don’t have a lens on my Nikon D90, I was stuck using my Canon powershot point and shoot. Way too many of the pictures were out of focus (due to my love of using Digital Macro and Toby’s love of moving constantly), but I still love some of the ones that came out. And since his favorite food seems to be bananas and his favorite toy is his monkey, this hat seem more than appropriate to capture the spirit of our little guy.
In the meantime, I am trying to recapture my love of making things from scratch. Today: french baguettes using the Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day base recipe. I made my dough yesterday – I did a half batch with bread flour. Today I shaped my baguettes and baked them. Here they are:
I haven’t tried any of the other doughs yet, but I have my eye on making the Brioche dough and using it for caramel sticky buns among other tasty treats! If you haven’t checked out this book, I highly recommend it. This bread tastes phenomenal, is made up of 4 (!) ingredients, requires no kneading, and the dough can keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks! It is too simple not to love!
